Mbappe Takes Legal Step Against PSG Over Unpaid Settlement as Dispute Continues

Share:

Kylian Mbappe has escalated his long running financial dispute with Paris Saint-Germain by sending a bailiff to the club’s offices, formally demanding payment of 5.9 million euros that he claims remains unpaid from a court ordered settlement. The move places PSG under an eight day deadline to clear the outstanding amount or face potential legal enforcement measures.

According to reports in French media, the unpaid sum relates to accrued paid leave and interest stemming from a broader 60.9 million euro settlement ordered by a judge at the end of December 2025. PSG has already paid 55 million euros of that total, but the remaining balance has yet to be transferred. The formal notice delivered on Friday opens the door for Mbappe’s legal team to pursue direct seizure of funds from the club’s accounts should the deadline pass without payment.

The dispute represents another chapter in the tense separation between Mbappe and PSG following his high profile departure last summer. After years as the club’s central figure, the France international left Paris to join Real Madrid, ending a relationship that had increasingly been marked by contractual disagreements and public tension. While both parties initially moved toward a negotiated settlement, the latest development suggests unresolved issues remain.

PSG has yet to issue a public response to the bailiff’s action. However, the case places renewed focus on financial governance and contractual compliance at elite clubs, particularly when high value player exits are involved. Legal experts note that once a court order is issued, clubs have limited room to delay payment without risking further sanctions or reputational damage.

Away from the legal battle, Mbappe’s on field situation has also been under scrutiny. The forward recently featured in Real Madrid’s Champions League defeat to Benfica, a result that sparked pointed post match comments from the player. Mbappe questioned his team’s desire and consistency, stressing that elite sides must show the same intensity in every match if they are to compete at the highest level.

Despite that setback, he quickly responded in domestic competition. Real Madrid secured a 2 1 victory over Rayo Vallecano at the weekend, with Mbappe converting a dramatic stoppage time penalty to seal the win. The goal helped Real maintain pressure in the title race as they chase leaders Barcelona.

Mbappe has also received public backing from Didier Deschamps, who dismissed criticism of the striker’s leadership qualities. The France coach described Mbappe as a genuine leader within the national setup, emphasizing his influence on younger players and his role as captain. Deschamps acknowledged that while strikers are naturally individualistic, Mbappe’s behavior behind the scenes reflects responsibility and commitment.

As the deadline approaches, attention will turn back to Paris and whether PSG moves swiftly to close the matter. Failure to do so could prolong a dispute that already casts a shadow over both parties. For Mbappe, the issue is about enforcing contractual rights. For PSG, it is another reminder of the complex financial and legal challenges that can follow the departure of a superstar.
