Fans planning to attend matches at MetLife Stadium during the FIFA World Cup 2026 are facing steep transport costs, with train tickets priced at $150 for a short journey. The fare, covering a 30 minute trip from Manhattan to New Jersey, has sparked criticism from supporter groups.
The Football Supporters’ Association described the pricing as excessive, arguing that fans are being unfairly charged for essential travel. The ticket cost represents a sharp increase from the usual return fare of around $12.90, raising concerns about accessibility for supporters attending matches.
The route connects Penn Station in Manhattan to the stadium, which is set to host eight World Cup fixtures, including a final match. Alternative transport options, such as shuttle buses, are also priced at a premium, with tickets costing around $80.
Criticism has also focused on the lack of concessions, with children and elderly passengers required to pay the full fare. Additionally, tickets are non refundable and non transferable, further limiting flexibility for fans.
As preparations for the tournament continue, the issue has highlighted broader concerns about the cost of attending major sporting events. Supporters are calling for more affordable options to ensure wider access and a better experience for fans traveling to matches.
