Gotham FC have strengthened their squad with the signing of Norwegian forward Guro Reiten from Chelsea in a move that adds significant international experience and attacking quality to the National Women’s Soccer League club. The 31 year old joins the American side on loan until the end of July which coincides with the final months of her contract with Chelsea. After the loan period ends she will remain with Gotham as a free agent under a long term agreement that runs through 2029. The transfer reflects Gotham’s continued ambition to compete at the highest level while adding players with strong European pedigrees.
Reiten arrives in the United States after enjoying a highly successful spell in England where she established herself as one of Chelsea’s most consistent attacking players. During her seven seasons with the London club she collected an impressive list of honours and played a key role in the team’s domestic dominance. Between 2019 and 2026 she helped Chelsea win six Women’s Super League titles along with four Women’s FA Cups and three Women’s League Cups. Her ability to contribute goals and assists from wide attacking positions made her an important figure in Chelsea’s tactical system and one of the most productive players in the squad.
Across all competitions Reiten made 207 appearances for Chelsea and produced 59 goals along with 44 assists which highlighted both her finishing ability and creative vision. Her versatility allowed her to operate effectively on the wing or in more advanced attacking roles where she often created scoring opportunities for teammates. Gotham officials believe those qualities will translate well into the fast paced environment of the NWSL. The club has been looking to add experienced attacking players capable of influencing matches and providing leadership within the squad as it continues to build a competitive roster for upcoming seasons.
Speaking about the move Reiten expressed excitement about beginning a new chapter in her career and joining a team that has shown strong progress in recent years. She noted that Gotham has developed an ambitious project and said she is eager to contribute to the club’s goals both on and off the field. Gotham general manager Yael Averbuch West also praised the signing and described Reiten as a player who consistently performs at the highest level. She added that the Norwegian international’s experience of competing for major trophies and representing her country will bring valuable leadership and creativity to the team’s attacking unit.
Reiten also brings extensive international experience through her long standing role with the Norwegian national team. She has scored 21 goals in 108 appearances for Norway and has represented her country in multiple major tournaments. Her international career includes helping Norway reach the knockout stage in three consecutive FIFA Women’s World Cups which demonstrated her ability to perform under the pressure of global competition. That background adds another dimension to Gotham’s squad as the club continues to attract players with strong international reputations and proven success at elite levels of women’s football.
