Arsenal’s Premier League title ambitions suffered a setback after a dramatic 2 2 draw against Wolves, with a stoppage time own goal denying Mikel Arteta’s side a crucial victory.

The Gunners appeared in full control for much of the contest and looked set to extend their lead at the top of the table. However, Riccardo Calafiori’s late deflection turned into his own net, allowing Wolves to snatch a point and deal a blow to Arsenal’s momentum in the title race.

Arsenal started brightly and took the lead through Bukayo Saka, who celebrated his new five year contract in style. Deployed in a central attacking role, Saka made an immediate impact by finishing confidently to give the visitors an early advantage. The move underlined Arteta’s tactical flexibility and trust in his star winger.

The league leaders doubled their advantage when Piero Hincapie scored his first goal for the club. His strike appeared to put Arsenal firmly in command, especially as they controlled possession and limited Wolves’ clear chances.

Yet Wolves showed resilience in difficult winter conditions. Hugo Bueno reignited hope for the home side with a moment of quality, reducing the deficit and energizing the crowd. From that point, the game shifted in intensity, with Wolves pushing forward in search of an equaliser.

Arsenal had opportunities to kill the game but were unable to find a third goal. As the clock ticked into stoppage time, Wolves launched one final attack. Tom Edozie struck from the edge of the box and his effort took a crucial deflection off Calafiori, wrong footing goalkeeper David Raya and finding the back of the net.

The late equaliser sparked celebrations among Wolves players and supporters, while Arsenal were left stunned. The result means the Gunners missed the chance to move seven points clear of Manchester City, adding pressure as the title race tightens.

Arteta had previously described being top of the Premier League as a privilege, but nights like this highlight the fine margins involved in sustaining a championship push. After also drawing with Brentford, Arsenal now face questions about their ability to close out matches during decisive phases of the season.

For Wolves, the point represents another valuable step in their fight to secure Premier League survival. Their determination and late surge showcased the competitiveness of the league, where even teams battling near the bottom can influence the title picture.

With fixtures piling up and rivals waiting to capitalize, Arsenal must quickly regroup. The title race remains open, but dropped points at this stage could prove costly in the final stretch.
