Colombia international Jhon Duran is on the move again, with the 22 year old forward joining Zenit St Petersburg on loan from Al-Nassr until the end of the 2025 26 season. The switch comes after the early termination of his loan spell at Fenerbahce, marking another chapter in a career that has already taken him across several major leagues.
Zenit confirmed the deal on Monday, welcoming Duran as they push to keep pace in a tight Russian title race. The Saint Petersburg club currently sit second in the league on 39 points, just one behind leaders Krasnodar, and sees the Colombian as a timely attacking boost for the business end of the season.
Duran’s journey over the past year has been anything but quiet. He joined Al Nassr from Aston Villa in January 2025 in a deal reportedly worth around 80 million dollars, one of the standout transfers involving a young South American striker. His impact in Saudi Arabia was immediate, scoring 12 goals in 18 appearances and quickly becoming a fan favourite thanks to his pace, power and direct style.
Despite that strong return, Al Nassr opted to loan him out at the start of the current campaign, sending him to Fenerbahce in search of regular minutes and continued development. His time in Turkey was solid rather than spectacular. Duran found the net five times in 18 matches, contributed with important link up play and was part of the squad that lifted the Turkish Super Cup. Still, with competition for places and tactical considerations in play, his loan was cut short to open the door for a new opportunity.
For Zenit, the move fits neatly into their ambitions. The club are chasing silverware and needs attacking options who can stretch defences and deliver in high pressure moments. Duran’s physical profile and experience across England, Saudi Arabia and Turkey suggest he can adapt quickly to the demands of the Russian league. At 22, he also represents a longer term investment, even if the current deal only runs through the end of the season.
On the international stage, Duran has already made his mark with Colombia, scoring three goals in 17 caps and establishing himself as a regular option in the attacking rotation. Regular game time at Zenit could strengthen his case ahead of upcoming international tournaments, something that will not be lost on the player or his national team coaches.
This loan move is less about a step back and more about finding the right rhythm. For Duran, it is a chance to reset, play with confidence and remind everyone why he has been one of the most talked about young forwards of his generation.
