Manchester City are set to complete the signing of Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, with the £65m deal expected to be finalised by the weekend, pending a medical.
The Premier League champions have agreed to trigger Semenyo’s release clause, which is active until 10 January. The Ghana international will undergo his medical following Bournemouth’s midweek fixture against Tottenham on Wednesday evening.
Despite interest from several top clubs including Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Spurs, City are the only side to have made a formal approach to the south coast club.
Speaking ahead of the Tottenham clash, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola admitted the game could be Semenyo’s last in a Cherries shirt.
“I think it could be the last game. That is my personal opinion, but there is nothing agreed and nothing signed,” Iraola said. “He, right now, is our player and I hope it continues.”
Semenyo has been in outstanding form this season, scoring nine goals and providing three assists across all competitions. His speed, direct style and versatility across the front line have made him one of the most sought-after attacking players in the Premier League.
Iraola further praised the 24-year-old’s impact, describing him as “almost impossible to replace,” underlining how crucial Semenyo has been to Bournemouth’s attacking threat.
City, currently navigating an injury-hit campaign, see Semenyo as a valuable addition to their forward line ahead of the title run-in.
