St Louis City Secure Simon Becher on Long Term Deal Until 2028

St Louis City have made a clear statement about their attacking plans by extending forward Simon Becher’s contract through June 2028, with an additional club option for the 2028 29 season. The move signals confidence in the 26 year old as a key piece of the club’s long term project in Major League Soccer.

Becher joined St Louis initially on loan from Danish side AC Horsens in 2024 and has steadily grown into an important part of the squad. Since arriving, he has registered nine goals and six assists in 48 appearances across all competitions. While those numbers may not immediately place him among the league’s elite forwards, his overall contribution has been valued highly by the coaching staff.

The extension reflects more than just statistics. Becher’s work rate and intelligent movement in the final third have often stretched defenses and created space for teammates. His ability to press from the front and stay active off the ball fits well with the energetic identity St Louis have tried to build since entering MLS.

Before his time in Missouri, Becher was selected 16th overall in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft by the Vancouver Whitecaps. During his spell in Vancouver from 2022 to 2023, he scored seven goals in 25 matches, showing flashes of the attacking instincts that would later attract interest from Europe and eventually lead to his loan move.

The transition from Denmark back to MLS appears to have benefited both player and club. Becher has looked comfortable within St Louis’ system, linking well with midfield runners and contributing in big moments. His versatility across the front line has also provided tactical flexibility, allowing the coaching staff to adjust formations without sacrificing intensity.

For St Louis City, locking in a player entering his prime years adds stability to an evolving roster. MLS clubs often face challenges retaining talent amid overseas interest or internal competition. By securing Becher through 2028, the club ensures continuity in their attacking core while maintaining options for the future with the added extension clause.

Supporters will see this as a sign of ambition. As the league grows increasingly competitive, especially within the Western Conference, depth and reliability in forward positions can be the difference between a playoff push and a mid table finish. Becher’s familiarity with the league and his experience abroad provide a blend of maturity and hunger.

The decision also reinforces the importance of smart roster management in MLS, where contract structures and long term planning are critical. Investing in players who understand the club culture and have already adapted to the environment reduces uncertainty and builds chemistry over time.

With several seasons still ahead on his new deal, Becher now has the platform to further elevate his numbers and establish himself as one of St Louis City’s defining figures in the coming years.
