Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of Sweden defender Hanna Wijk on a long-term contract, subject to international clearance and a work permit.

The 22-year-old full-back joins from BK Häcken and becomes Tottenham’s second signing of the transfer window, following the agreement in November for Norway winger Signe Gaupset.

Wijk has been a key figure at Häcken since breaking into the senior side as a teenager. She made her debut in 2020 and has gone on to register 107 appearances for the Swedish club, featuring in 25 of their 26 matches last season. Her consistent performances have also earned her a first senior cap for Sweden women’s national football team.

Speaking after the move was confirmed, Wijk described the transfer as a major milestone in her career. “It feels great to be here. I got goosebumps when I put on the shirt,” she said. “It has always been my dream to move abroad from Sweden and play in this league. I’ve watched it a lot from home and I’m really looking forward to playing in England and for Spurs.”

Tottenham head coach Martin Ho said Wijk was attracting significant interest before choosing north London as her next destination. “Hanna was in demand across the market, and we’re very pleased she decided Tottenham Hotspur was the right club for the next stage of her career,” Ho said. “Her decision reflects the ambition of our project and the pathway we’re building.”

Tottenham remain active in the market, with Häcken midfielder Matilda Nilden still on their radar, while talks are also ongoing over a potential move for Japan international Maika Hamano.
