A complex transfer chain has opened the door for Tammy Abraham’s return to English football, with Besiktas completing a permanent deal before agreeing to sell the striker on to Aston Villa. The Turkish club confirmed it paid Roma just over £11 million after an obligation to buy clause in Abraham’s loan contract was activated. Despite initially intending to keep the forward, Besiktas accepted an offer from Villa worth around £18 million, allowing the 28-year-old to head back to the Premier League after completing a medical in the UK. Abraham impressed during his time in Turkey, scoring 12 goals in 24 appearances, and his form quickly attracted interest as Villa moved to strengthen their attacking options during the window.
The move brings Abraham full circle to a club where he previously enjoyed one of the most productive spells of his career. He spent the 2018–19 season on loan at Aston Villa, scoring 26 goals and helping secure promotion to the Premier League. That campaign played a key role in establishing him at the top level before his transfer to Italy. Besiktas confirmed the financial details of their agreement with AS Roma, stating that all contractual conditions had been met and the permanent transfer clause was enforced, even though the club would have preferred to retain the player following his strong domestic impact.
Abraham’s career has included several high profile moves across Europe. After joining Roma from Chelsea in 2021 for a reported £34 million, he scored 39 goals in 120 appearances and played a central role in the club’s Europa Conference League triumph in 2022. He later spent the 2024–25 season on loan at AC Milan, where he found the net 10 times in 44 matches. Now set to return to England, the England international will look to build on his recent form and re establish himself in the Premier League as Villa continue to push for consistency and attacking depth in a competitive season.
