Houston Dynamo Reacquire Forward Aliyu Ibrahim from Columbus Crew in MLS Move

Houston Dynamo have brought forward Aliyu Ibrahim back to the club after completing a transfer deal with the Columbus Crew, marking the Nigerian player’s return to the team where he previously spent two productive seasons. The Major League Soccer side confirmed that Columbus received 250000 dollars in general allocation money with the potential for an additional 500000 dollars in performance related incentives as part of the agreement. The move reflects Houston’s efforts to strengthen depth and attacking flexibility as the club continues shaping its squad for the ongoing MLS campaign.

Ibrahim originally played for Houston between 2023 and 2025 where he became a familiar figure in the team’s attacking setup. During that period he recorded nine goals and five assists in 66 league appearances including 51 starts which highlighted his ability to contribute regularly across multiple matches and competitions. Known for his pace and direct attacking style the 24 year old often operated in wide positions where his ability to run into open space created opportunities for teammates. His performances during those seasons helped establish him as a valuable option within Houston’s tactical approach.

Following his departure from Houston the Nigerian forward joined the Columbus Crew in April and spent the remainder of the previous season with the club. He made 23 appearances during that campaign including 12 starts and contributed three goals along with two assists. Despite showing moments of attacking promise he had not yet appeared for Columbus during the current season which opened the door for Houston to negotiate a return. The Dynamo management viewed the opportunity as a chance to bring back a player who already understands the team’s system and expectations.

Houston Dynamo president of soccer Pat Onstad welcomed the transfer and emphasized the qualities Ibrahim brings to the squad. He noted that the forward had played an important role during his earlier time with the club and that his athleticism and work rate make him well suited for the team’s evolving style of play. Onstad also highlighted Ibrahim’s ability to cover large areas of the field while contributing both offensively and defensively which is particularly valuable for players operating along the flanks in modern MLS systems.

The return of Ibrahim provides Houston with additional attacking options as the club looks to remain competitive throughout the season. Major League Soccer teams often rely on versatile players capable of adapting to multiple roles and Ibrahim’s familiarity with Houston’s environment could help him reintegrate quickly. The Dynamo organization also expressed enthusiasm about welcoming the forward and his family back to the city as the club continues building its roster around experienced contributors and emerging talent in pursuit of consistent results in the league.
