Vissel Kobe continued their strong run in the Asian Champions League Elite with a composed 2 0 win over FC Seoul, sealing their place in the knockout rounds and keeping their position at the top of the standings. The Japanese side delivered a controlled performance on Tuesday, with a moment of individual brilliance proving decisive as the competition moves closer to its business end.

The breakthrough came in the 69th minute when Yoshinori Muto produced a stunning solo effort. The former European based forward collected the ball deep in his own half, surged forward with purpose, and finished emphatically into the top corner to give Kobe the lead. The goal shifted the momentum firmly in Kobe’s favor and underlined their confidence in high pressure moments. Just four minutes later, Gotoku Sakai doubled the advantage, ensuring there would be no late comeback from the visitors.

With the victory, Vissel Kobe confirmed qualification for the last 16 and remained clear leaders in the 12 team group. The result also highlighted the growing depth and balance in the squad as Kobe continue to juggle domestic ambitions alongside continental competition.

Compatriots Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Machida Zelvia also secured their progression on a productive night for Japanese clubs. Hiroshima claimed a hard fought 2 1 win over Malaysia’s Johor Darul Ta zim in a match that tested their resilience after an early setback.

Hiroshima fell behind in the third minute when Marcos Guilherme capitalized on a defensive error to put the visitors ahead. The game turned soon after when Jonathan Silva was sent off for a handball on the goal line, handing Hiroshima both a penalty and a numerical advantage. Akito Suzuki converted from the spot to restore parity and then struck again early in the second half with a well timed header, completing the comeback and guaranteeing a place in the knockout phase.

Machida Zelvia delivered a disciplined 2 0 victory away from home against Shanghai Shenhua, a result that eliminated the Chinese Super League side from contention. Yuki Soma played a central role, scoring both goals to move Machida onto 14 points with one round still to play. His first came from the penalty spot in the third minute after a foul inside the area, setting the tone for a controlled display. Soma sealed the win late on with a confident finish that reflected Machida’s growing composure on the continental stage.

All three Japanese clubs are now guaranteed top eight finishes, which secures direct passage into the knockout rounds. The next phase will be contested over two legs in early March, with the winners advancing to the finals stage scheduled to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in late April. As the tournament narrows, the strong showing from Japan’s representatives is shaping the narrative of this year’s Asian Champions League.
