Crystal Palace have completed the signing of Brennan Johnson from Tottenham Hotspur for a club-record £35 million fee, with manager Oliver Glasner praising the club’s swift action in securing the deal.
The 25-year-old Wales international has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract at Selhurst Park and is expected to be available for Palace’s upcoming clash against Newcastle on Sunday. Johnson becomes the club’s most expensive signing in history, surpassing the £27 million spent on Christian Benteke in 2016.
Palace have been active early in the January transfer window as they look to strengthen their squad following a challenging domestic and European campaign. Manager Oliver Glasner has previously voiced frustration over the lack of squad depth during Palace’s run in Europe this season. However, he welcomed Johnson’s arrival with optimism.
“I’m very pleased we managed to get this done early,” Glasner said. “Brennan is a player with pace, intelligence and the ability to change a game. It was important to strengthen now and I’m thankful to the club for moving quickly.”
Johnson, who joined Tottenham from Nottingham Forest in 2023, struggled for regular starts in North London and is eager for a fresh challenge. Speaking after completing his medical and finalizing the deal, he expressed his enthusiasm for the move.
“I’m super excited to be here,” Johnson said. “Crystal Palace is a fantastic club with passionate fans, and I’m looking forward to contributing and pushing the team forward.”
The signing marks a significant statement of intent from Palace as they look to maintain momentum in both league and cup competitions during the second half of the season.
