Liverpool and Wrexham are set to meet at New York’s iconic Yankee Stadium on July 29 in a high profile pre season friendly that will be part of a three match summer tour across the United States for both clubs.

The match is expected to draw strong interest from American football fans as well as supporters of both teams. Liverpool remain one of the most widely followed English clubs in the United States, while Wrexham’s rapid rise and global attention have created a unique crossover appeal.

Liverpool confirmed that their summer tour will include three matches across major American cities. The team will begin the tour on July 25 against Sunderland at Geodis Park in Nashville. After facing Wrexham in New York, Liverpool will conclude the series with a match against Leeds United at Chicago’s Soldier Field on August 2.

The club highlighted the importance of the American market to its global growth strategy. Liverpool estimates that more than 26 million of its supporters live in the United States, making the country one of its fastest growing fan bases. The club also reported that the Reds were the most watched Premier League team in the United States during the previous season.

The popularity of Liverpool in the region continues to expand through official supporters clubs and youth development programs. According to the club, there are currently dozens of official Liverpool supporters groups operating across more than thirty US states, along with international football academies aimed at developing young players.

For Wrexham, the summer tour represents another opportunity to strengthen its rapidly growing international following. The Welsh club has become one of the most talked about teams in world football since actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney purchased the club in 2021.

Their ownership helped transform the club’s profile through the award winning documentary series Welcome to Wrexham, which introduced the club’s story to a global audience and significantly increased its fan base beyond the United Kingdom.

Wrexham will also play three matches during the US tour. The club will first face Leeds United at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on July 25 before taking on Liverpool at Yankee Stadium four days later. The tour will conclude with a match against Sunderland at Subaru Park in Philadelphia on August 2.

The Welsh side has experienced an extraordinary rise through the English football pyramid. After competing in the fifth tier only a few seasons ago, the team has achieved three consecutive promotions and now plays in the Championship. The club is currently pushing for a potential place in the Premier League through the playoff positions.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said the squad is excited to return to the United States, where the team received strong support during previous summer tours. The club previously visited the country in 2023 and 2024, drawing large crowds and strengthening connections with fans across North America.

For Liverpool, the upcoming match will also mark their third appearance at Yankee Stadium. The club previously played there in 2014 when they defeated Manchester City in a penalty shootout, and again in 2019 when they drew with Sporting in an international friendly.
